About us

Croobcovey is a small kennel in the heart of the Mourne Mountains in rural County Down, Northern Ireland where we are totally dedicated to top class Working and Trialing Flatcoated Retrievers. We have owned, trained and shot over Flatcoated Retrievers for 11 years. Ultimately the test for any Retriever is competing at the highest level in AV Field Trials. At the moment we have one campaigning bitch, Walnutfarm Nuala that has won the Ulster Golden Retriever Club's 12 Dog AV Novice Stake in 2008 and won a 3rd place and Gun's Choice in the Fermanagh Gundog Club's 24 Dog AV Open Qualifying Stake in 2009. Getting placed in the 24 Dog stake enabled Nuala to win the Flatcoated Retrievers Society's Riverside Cup which goes to the top Field Trialing Flatcoated Retriever in the UK that Field Trialing year. Nuala and myself were also part of the 2008 Ulster Select Gundog Team that traveled to Scotland to take on the mighty Tay Vally Gundog Association in the Kerr Cup Challenge Tests where the Ulster Select Team pipped Tay Vally by 4 points. Along with this Nuala has won or been placed in both AV Novice and Open Working Tests in Northern Ireland held under UK Kennel Club rules. She is a very biddable and stylish bitch with a lot of affection. Nuala is the first Flatcoated Retriever to win in Any Variety Field Trials in Northern Ireland for nearly 40 years. She is a very special bitch that would be very difficult to replace. We are hoping to breed Nuala in the Spring of 2012 with a very promising young dog of ours, Ebony Collarada of Croobcovey whom has competed and won or been placed in Working Tests this year. He is a stylish young dog with a lot of natural ability, who's sire Warresmere Heath Rustic of Collarm won the Riverside Trophy in 2008. Our aim is to produce a top Field Trialing /Working Line of Flatcoated Retrievers that can compete at the highest level,.... but still be a Flatcoat. Inquiries welcomed.
